Search this neighborhoodDowntown is Raleigh’s government and business core, centered on the State Capitol, Fayetteville Street and Moore Square. The outline runs from West Peace Street in the north to Lenoir Street in the south, and from the railroad on the west to the New Bern Avenue corridor on the east. It also holds the Warehouse District along its western edge; Union Station is across the railroad, in Boylan Heights. North Person Street divides it from Oakwood: the Blount Street blocks west of it are Downtown, and Historic Oakwood's blocks east of it belong to Oakwood.
Moore Square, Nash Square and City Cemetery are inside it, along with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Marbles Kids Museum and the North Carolina Executive Mansion. GoRaleigh routes including 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12 and 17 stop here. The boundary is built from census block groups, so it follows streets and creeks but is not an association or historic-district line.
CivicScout counts Raleigh Police reported offenses that carry a location, traffic crashes and open 311 requests inside the Downtown boundary for any searched address. RPD withholds the location of most sexual offenses and every child-abuse report, so located counts understate violent crime. Police place incidents on the block’s street, so offenses within about 30 meters of the outline are counted, and an offense on a street shared by two neighborhoods counts toward both. Raleigh publishes no code violations feed, so this page does not cover one.
