Hunts Point & Longwood
Neighborhood Intelligence

Hunts Point and Longwood form Bronx Community District 2, occupying the peninsula between the Bronx River and the East River. The district spans from Longwood's dense residential blocks in the west to the Hunts Point peninsula in the east, which hosts the largest food distribution center in the United States — the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center. The Bruckner Expressway bisects the community, separating residential streets from the massive wholesale market and light-industrial uses.

Longwood is primarily a residential neighborhood of pre-war tenements and NYCHA housing with a strong Puerto Rican and Dominican community. Hunts Point has historically been an industrial and distribution hub, though community organizations have long advocated for waterfront access and mixed-use development. The Bronx River Greenway provides recreational infrastructure along the eastern edge.
