About Lincoln Square

Lincoln Square is a community area on Chicago's North Side, stretching from Bryn Mawr and Peterson Avenues on the north to Montrose Avenue on the south, with Ravenswood Avenue to the east and the Chicago River to the west. The neighborhood is named for the commercial square at Lincoln, Lawrence, and Western Avenues, which features a statue of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln Square encompasses several sub-neighborhoods including Ravenswood, Bowmanville, and Budlong Woods.

The area is known for its European village atmosphere, anchored by the Lincoln Square commercial district with its German-influenced shops, restaurants, and the annual Maifest celebration. The Old Town School of Folk Music relocated to Lincoln Square in 1998 and has become a cultural anchor. The Western Brown Line station houses a piece of the Berlin Wall donated to the city in 2008. The neighborhood's housing stock features a mix of brick bungalows, two-flats, greystones, and single-family homes on tree-lined streets.
