Haight Ashbury
Neighborhood Intelligence

Haight Ashbury runs from Oak Street south to Parnassus Avenue and 17th Street, and from Steiner Street west to Stanyan Street and Golden Gate Park. SF Planning's analysis neighborhood includes the Upper Haight commercial strip, Cole Valley, Ashbury Heights, the blocks around Buena Vista Park, and the western end of the Lower Haight. The neighborhood is known for its role in the 1960s counterculture and for its dense stock of Victorian and Edwardian houses. About 16,800 people live here.

Housing is mostly two- and three-unit Victorian and Edwardian flats and single-family homes, zoned largely RH-3 and RH-2, with RM-1 and RM-2 apartment parcels and RTO-C near transit corridors. Commercial uses fall in the Haight Street NCD, the Cole Valley NCD, and a short stretch of the Divisadero Street NCT. Buena Vista Park occupies the hill at the neighborhood's center, and Golden Gate Park borders it to the west.
