Bancroft Crime Map & Reported Offense Data

Crimes cover the Bancroft neighborhood (the boundary outlined on the map), over the last 12 months. Open building violations are counted within roughly a half-mile of the center. Crime is compared per resident (rate), so a large, busy area can have a high total but a lower rate; violation counts are compared to the average Minneapolis neighborhood. Source: City of Minneapolis open data (Open Minneapolis). Minneapolis Police’s public data withholds the address of some offenses: over the last 12 months about 12% of sex offenses and about 1% of other violent offenses (assault, robbery, homicide, kidnapping) carry no location, so they cannot be placed near an address and located counts understate violent crime. Locations are rounded to the block. The University of Minnesota campus is policed by UMPD and is not covered by this feed, and Metro Transit Police, the Hennepin County Sheriff and the State Patrol handle incidents that may not appear. Minneapolis Park Police (Park & Recreation Board) incidents in parks, along the lakes and parkways appear to be missing too, so counts near parks and lakeshores can read lower than the true level.
