About Portage Park

Portage Park is a community area on Chicago's Northwest Side, centered on the Six Corners shopping district at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue, Irving Park Road, and Cicero Avenue. The neighborhood is characterized by its well-maintained blocks of Chicago bungalows, a housing type that defines much of the area's residential character. Portage Park is the community's namesake green space, featuring a pool, playing fields, and a fieldhouse.

Six Corners has historically been one of the busiest commercial intersections outside the Loop and is Chicago's only designated Main Street America accredited community. The Portage Theater, built in 1920, is one of the city's oldest surviving movie houses. The neighborhood is primarily served by bus connections to the Blue Line, with the Irving Park and Montrose stations located on its eastern edge in the Kennedy Expressway median.
