About Grand Boulevard

Grand Boulevard is a community area on Chicago's South Side, bounded by 39th Street (Pershing Road) to the north, 51st Street to the south, Cottage Grove Avenue to the east, and the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) to the west. The neighborhood is the southern half of the historic Bronzeville district and was once the center of Black cultural and commercial life in Chicago during the Great Migration era. The Regal Theater, the Savoy Ballroom, and numerous jazz clubs once lined South Parkway (now Martin Luther King Jr. Drive).

Grand Boulevard's housing stock includes large greystones, ornate apartment buildings, and some newer construction. The neighborhood is home to the Corpus Christi Church, the former site of the Robert Taylor Homes, and several historic buildings along King Drive and South Parkway. The area has seen revitalization efforts including restoration of historic greystones and new mixed-income housing developments.
